History of BTEF...
In 2008, after returning from BsAs, we - Lucian and Monica (www.lucianymonica.ro)- made an important step in our dance career by opening our own studio and starting sharing "nuestra alma de tango". Interested in providing a high quality teaching, performing and event-organizing in Romania, we decided - with our friend Gabriela- to organize the 1rst edition of Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival in April 2009. According to Maestros, participants, class attendants, and milonga dancers, the BTEF 2009 was a real succes.
2nd edition of Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival in April 2010 was a tough decision, due to people financial situation, the black cloud (cancelled flights), the participants' higher level of expectation, and not the last, Monica's (first) pregnancy. Although BTEF 2010 was by far the most challenging tango event we have organized, it remained one of the reference points in tango events in Romania.
Although our wish was to organize BTEF every year, the 3rd edition of Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival had to be postponed, because of two strong reasons: a higher level of professionalism we want to reach in 2012 and Monica's (second) giving birth in July 2011. Now we (Lucian, Monica and Gabriela) proudly offer you Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival 2012, 3rd edition, 3-6 May 2012.
More about BTEF...
Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival is a non profit event created for all those people united by the common passion for Tango culture: music, "baile social", dancing, tango network etc. For us, the BTEF organizers – Lucian, Monica and Gabriela – tango is a life-time journey which began in 2005, in Bucharest. This journey linked us to many corners of the world and to the very heart of the tango culture, Buenos Aires. Based on our tango experience as dancers and event-organizers, based on the tango essence received from the salons in Argentina and based on the professionalism learnt from the most important world tango festivals, we are now actively promoting "Tango Argentino" culture in Romania through projects such BTEF.
Our feeling is that the romanian tango community is growing stronger and many well known Maestros can contribute to its maturity. As a consequence to wanted to have an encounter (encuentro) with those great artists who inspired and who influenced our tango journey, as more-then-welcomed guests to our tango home. Through BTEF these greatest tango artists in the world -sometimes for their very first time in Romania - will offer intensive tango training programs for all level dancers, high quality dance information, outstanding tango performances, in a word, their "best of..." .
With Bucharest Tango Encuentro Festival we also wish to offer Bucharest both a cultural, significant event and a place in the European tango network. We are very proud every time we can manage to organize this major event and this is why we thank all our friends, from Romania and worldwide, without whose support Bucharest Tango Encuentro would not be possible!
